You can finally take a “Magic Carpet Ride” when you board your Celebrity Edge cruise ship. – Debuting December 2018.
What is The Magic Carpet? “Be one with the Sea” quoted by Richard Fain, CEO And Chairman of RCCL. The Magic Carpet is a movable deck cantilevered on her starboard side. The Magic Carpet will be poised on Deck 2 as “Destination Gateway” and acts as a disembarkation platform for tender ports of call. Celebrity also announced their all-new tenders called “Launches”. These launches will feature padded seating and will be air conditioned. There will be 8 launches each carrying 182 passengers. “Destination Gateway”, will be a multipurpose area. When it is docked on Deck 2 for example in the evenings it could serve as “Game-On” with interactive games for adults and children alike. It will also be used for meeting space and art auctions as well as “Trunk Shows” like a Bazaar from a specific port of call. There will be “all sorts of technology”. When docked on Deck 5, the Magic Carpet will serve as a lounge destination and dining venue ($). Rumored is this will also be an extension of a Raw Bar., and we can’t wait! When the Magic Carpet climbs up to Deck 16 it will be a lounge as well as offerring,”Dining on the Edge” ($). When stationed on Deck 14, The Magic Carpet will be an extension of the pool deck and be the spot for happy hours, late night bites and a specialty restaurant that will alternate theme menus like Lobster Bakes and Bubbles and BBQ ($). This all goes back to,”Be One With the Sea”, Richard Fain.
Royal Caribbean names new ship Symphony of the Seas and announces her home port as Miami, Florida. After the leak;
Royal Caribbean’s private island, Cococay in the Bahamas will undergo a facelift, and will be under some construction. There will be spaces for Bahamian vendors and artisans, new to Cococay. RCI will be training Bahamians in both a school setting and on-site training from shipboard professionals.
Biggest news is COCOCAY GETS A PIER! By the 2019 completion cruisers will no longer need to tender from ship to shore.
Another “Coming Soon”! Royal Caribbean is adding lifeguards fleetwide. This week on Oasis of the Seas guests saw something new! There were lifeguards. No, not pool security like in the past, actual trained and licensed Lifeguards. While there is a lot of controversy over this topic, we feel this is a step in the right direction for the cruise line. Look for lifeguards onboard your next cruise.
If you are cruising with children, make sure you know where to get life vests for them.
